4-year-old Chinese boy escaped life-threatening car accident on 8th Avenue_2
A serious accident occurred recently near 8th Avenue in Brooklyn, where a four-year-old Chinese boy was struck by a vehicle while walking alone in the street. The child suffered multiple injuries and was rushed to the hospital, prompting significant concern within the Brooklyn Chinese community. Fortunately, on October 19, the boy was moved from intensive care to a regular hospital room, indicating that he is no longer in critical danger and is now undergoing further rehabilitation.
Nicole Huang, the head of a New York parent-child support organization keeping in touch with the boy’s family, shared that the child’s condition was dire when he was admitted to the hospital on October 7. He had a large gash on his head and suffered fractures in his thigh and hip. After surgery, he remained in the ICU for monitoring. However, on October 13, doctors discovered that the child had developed a lung infection, necessitating the use of a ventilator to assist with his breathing.
By October 19, the medical team assessed that the boy’s life was no longer in peril, allowing him to transition to a regular room for recovery. He is now able to sit up, and his mother has expressed relief regarding his progress. Following the incident, both parents have resigned from their jobs to care for him, especially since they also have a twin brother and an older sister to look after. The family’s situation has been quite challenging, and the mother expressed her gratitude for the community’s support, stating that she would reach out for help if needed.
During her discussion about the boy’s condition, Nicole also referenced several other traffic incidents. One involved an elementary school student who was struck while crossing the street near PS 160 on Fort Hamilton Parkway and 52nd Street on July 25. Another incident captured on a driver’s dashcam on October 19 showed a child recklessly crossing the road at 7th Avenue and 54th Street, narrowly avoiding being hit by a car. Nicole firmly believes that the severe injuries suffered by the four-year-old were not simply a matter of chance. She urges parents to supervise their children closely and never allow them to roam the streets alone.
The accident that injured the young boy occurred at the intersection of Fort Hamilton Parkway and 59th Street. After the incident, the driver remained at the scene and was later taken into custody by the police; reportedly, the driver’s license had been suspended. However, as of October 21, police stated that no arrests had been made, and the investigation is still ongoing.
