During the National Day holiday, inbound and outbound passengers at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport increased by 42% year-on-year

In a recent interview with the Guangzhou Daily, reporters delved into the remarkable increase in passenger traffic at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport during this year’s National Day holiday.

According to data shared by Guangzhou Customs on October 7, by noon that day, the Baiyun Airport Customs had managed over 2,100 inbound and outbound flights, facilitating 270,000 passengers. This marks an impressive surge of over 27% in flights and a 42% increase in travelers compared to last year.

Fang Pinglan, head of the Aircraft Inspection Division at Baiyun Airport Customs, stated, “October 5 saw the highest number of travelers during the National Day holiday, with around 43,000 passengers passing through.”

To ensure efficient processing for travelers during this busy period, customs authorities have enhanced their use of intelligent technology at checkpoints. They have implemented advanced equipment, including integrated verification machines, X-ray systems, CT scanners, and millimeter-wave detectors. This technological investment aims to minimize wait times and improve the overall travel experience.

Furthermore, the combined effects of the Golden Week festivities and the upcoming 136th Canton Fair have significantly heightened passenger traffic at the Pazhou Port-Macau passenger terminal. Over the holiday period, the terminal processed more than 5,400 individuals, reflecting a year-on-year increase of over 50%. Notably, on October 1 alone, more than 1,280 travelers used the terminal, indicating a recent single-day peak.

Ideally situated just 100 meters from the Canton Fair exhibition hall, Pazhou Port stands as the only waterborne cross-border terminal within Guangzhou’s urban area. It serves as a vital link connecting Pazhou to Hong Kong International Airport and downtown Hong Kong, positioning it as an essential hub for cross-border water transport and a key player in the exhibition economy of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Since the beginning of this year, Guangzhou Customs has processed approximately 127,000 travelers at the Pazhou terminal.
