On October 18, 2023, China News reported from Beijing that the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, has initiated the selection of a second batch of model cases for the Water and Mountain Project. This initiative involved expert evaluations based on submissions from various regions, resulting in the selection of 18 exemplary cases noted for their demonstrative and instructive value.
The list of these second batch model cases, which focus on the integrated protection and restoration of mountains, waters, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, and deserts, was made public on the same day. Notable projects featured on the list include the Shanxi Jinglian Fen River National Wetland Park, along with examples from regions such as Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guizhou, Gansu, and Xinjiang.
Representatives from the three ministries emphasized the importance of carefully studying these exemplary cases. They encourage local authorities to tailor their approaches based on local conditions, promoting effective implementation to enhance the quality and efficiency of these mountain and water initiatives. This effort is aimed at creating a comprehensive framework for protecting and managing ecosystems from high mountains to oceans, ultimately enhancing biodiversity, stability, and sustainability.
