GIRL UP- Greensprings School Celebrates Girl Child

In a recent interview, Greensprings School shared insights about their “Girl Up” event, held in honor of the International Day of the Girl Child. The gathering brought together students, educators, and community leaders to discuss the unique challenges girls encounter and to explore potential solutions.

During the event, attendees had the chance to hear from inspiring keynote speakers who shared their personal stories and offered insights on how to overcome obstacles in the pursuit of success. They emphasized the critical role of education and self-belief in empowering young girls to become confident leaders in their communities.

One of the speakers, Mrs. Olivia Adegoke—who is both a parent at Greensprings School and the CEO of Salt and Pepper—highlighted the importance of community support in empowering women. She stated, “As a community, we must provide the right resources, tools, and education to empower girls and women. We must also inspire our younger girls to believe they can be whoever they want to be.”

Mrs. Chinelo Okoro, the Head of Counseling at Greensprings, added, “Every girl child needs to understand their potential so they can take on leadership roles, not only within the school but in society as well. They need to embrace their uniqueness and leadership potential, which is why, as a school, we are proud to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child – because we know that an empowered girl will lead to a better society.”

The event also featured student presentations and performances, with girls inspiring the audience through spoken word poetry and music. It concluded with a collective pledge from attendees to support and uplift girls in their communities, reflecting the school’s commitment to creating a nurturing environment where girls can develop into confident and empowered women capable of driving change.

The International Day of the Girl Child serves as a vital platform for addressing the unique challenges girls face globally, promoting gender equality and empowerment through education and advocacy.
