Recruitment of volunteers for Chengdu World Games fully launched

On October 26, 2023, in Chengdu, the launch ceremony for the recruitment of volunteers for the 2025 12th World Games took place at Chengdu Sport University. The Chengdu World Games Organizing Committee plans to recruit approximately 15,000 volunteers for the event.

According to sources, the World Games, organized by the International World Games Association, represent the highest level of international competition for non-Olympic sports. The Chengdu World Games are set to be held from August 7 to August 17, 2025. This marks the first time mainland China will host the World Games and follows the Chengdu Universiade, making it one of the significant international multi-sport events in western China.

The Chengdu World Games will feature competitions across 35 major sports, 61 sub-events, and a total of 254 individual events. Volunteers will be categorized into general volunteers and specialized volunteers, based on the nature of their roles and the areas of service. Specialized volunteers will have the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience required for the event, providing services that may include language translation and competition management, among others.

“Volunteers are the heart and soul of any major sporting event, and the World Games are no exception. It is the volunteers who make the magic of the World Games happen,” said Guillaume Feili, Deputy CEO of the International World Games Association. With athletes expected from over 100 countries and regions, the event will require extensive coordination and a spirit of dedication, calling for individuals who are willing to invest their time, knowledge, and passion into serving as event volunteers.

During the launch ceremony, eight young representatives, including Zhou Jingyuan, the men’s parallel bars champion from the Paris Olympics, and Huang Zhangjiayang, the champion of the artistic gymnastics group all-around at the Paris Olympics, were appointed as ambassadors for the Chengdu World Games volunteer program.
