Kazakhstan holds Republic Day award ceremony and Tokayev delivers a speech

On October 23, the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, held a ceremony to honor Republic Day, attended by President Tokayev, who delivered a speech to the nation.

According to the website of the Kazakh presidential office, Tokayev highlighted the significance of October 25, 1990, when Kazakhstan adopted its sovereignty declaration, marking the beginning of the nation’s independent journey. He emphasized that all the achievements Kazakhstan enjoys today are a result of the unity and strong cohesion of its people.

Reflecting on the devastating floods that struck the country earlier this year, Tokayev described the situation as a significant challenge. He noted that thanks to the collective efforts of the community, over 9,000 families received compensation for housing repairs, and more than 8,700 families moved into newly purchased and constructed homes. He also mentioned that the country has restored much of the damaged infrastructure.

Tokayev pointed out that under the “Just Kazakhstan” economic policy, the nation has invested heavily in transportation, energy, and industrial sectors in recent years. He reported that this year, Kazakhstan expects to complete the construction and refurbishment of 12,000 kilometers of road and to inaugurate new airport terminals. The government has implemented a series of measures to promote economic diversification, with manufacturing exports reaching $17.8 billion by August 2023.

Discussing the country’s foreign policy, Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan follows a balanced and constructive diplomatic approach based on national interests. “This year, we have continued to play a significant role in various multilateral international organizations, hosting major events such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and the World Nomad Games, thereby enhancing Kazakhstan’s international influence,” he remarked.

In his address, Tokayev also underscored the importance of law and order. He assured that the government will persist in enforcing a “zero tolerance” stance on criminal activities, firmly combating hooliganism and organized crime.

Moreover, Tokayev mentioned various initiatives and accomplishments in supporting the development of sectors such as healthcare, education, culture, agriculture, and science. Towards the end of his speech, he recognized several citizens who have made outstanding contributions to national development.

It is noteworthy that in September 2022, Tokayev signed a relevant bill officially designating October 25 as Republic Day, establishing a three-day holiday for the people of Kazakhstan during this festive occasion.
