-Active Family·Harmonious and Healthy- Sports Science Tour China Visits Zhoushan, Zhejiang
In an interview with a representative from the National Sports Administration, we learned about the recent “Active Families, Harmonious Health” sports science and outreach event held in Zhoushan, Zhejiang on October 26-27. This initiative focuses on promoting physical activity and aims to enhance public awareness of its health benefits, encouraging families to experience the advantages of active living together.
During the event, experts from various countries, including the UK and Hong Kong, along with scholars from universities and research institutions across China, convened for an international academic seminar on physical activity. The discussions delved into the physical activity statuses of different demographics both globally and within China. “The high level of expertise and the richness of the content provided invaluable insights,” said Ren Lei, the principal of Mengzhichu Kindergarten in Zhoushan. He expressed how engaging in direct dialogue expanded his horizons and equipped him with new ideas to promote movement among both teachers and students in his future educational endeavors.
As part of a broader initiative, the “Sports Science Outreach China Tour” is being conducted nationwide, and Zhoushan served as one of the key stops. The main venue, Ruxin Town Square, hosted various activities such as the Family City Walk, the “YUE Movements in the Thousand Islands” energy stations, and the Ruxin Community Sports Games, creating a lively atmosphere for families during the holiday.
The Family City Walk attracted numerous spectators as 200 participating families strolled through the city, discovering local scenery along the way. Along the route, participants engaged with seven “energy stations” that offered interactive games, quizzes, and parent-child sporting activities. Families highlighted how this unique approach not only conveyed a positive lifestyle but also sparked curiosity and enthusiasm among children. “It was a wonderful way to deepen our knowledge and skills while fostering emotional connections within our families,” they shared.
The organizers celebrated each participating family by awarding medals and seed cards. The medals featured Zhoushan’s iconic “Internet-famous Bridge” and the personalized landmark “Sunrise,” symbolizing the unique narrative of sports science outreach in Zhoushan. The seed cards embody the philosophy of health growing alongside families, planting a metaphorical seed of physical activity in their hearts.
Moreover, the Ruxin Community Sports Games blended passion and energy, drawing residents of all ages to partake in enjoyable sports activities that reflected the community’s philosophy of balancing health and happiness. This event is set to continue through November, extending the reach of sports science education. To broaden community access to sports information, the “YUE Movements in the Thousand Islands” mobile sports caravan presented national fitness monitoring equipment, fitness workshops, and fun sports activities.
During the event, synchronized with the closing ceremony of the 12th Zhoushan City Games, there was also a campaign to promote physical activity awareness. This not only enriched the local sports event with educational elements but also provided the audience with an opportunity to engage with sports science.
At the entrance of Zhoushan New City Children’s Park, attendees learned about the importance of reducing sedentary behavior and managing screen time through informational displays and interactive games. “Before this event, I knew that kids shouldn’t watch too much TV, but I didn’t have a clear idea of how much screen time was appropriate. Through this outreach activity, I gained practical knowledge about the minimum daily activity levels and maximum screen times for children at different growth stages,” shared one father participating in the Zhejiang Children’s Orienteering Carnival.
This event, organized by the National Sports Administration’s Science and Education Department, with support from various organizations and institutions, exemplifies a collective effort to promote health and fitness within families.
