Airport’s cargo hope amid low passenger numbers

During a recent interview, Spencer Birns, the chief executive of Cardiff Airport, emphasized the importance of diversifying revenue streams beyond passenger flights. “It’s vitally important for us to make money from new sources,” he stated, highlighting the airport’s launch of its first cargo service since 2010, which transports freight between South Wales and China.

Birns also discussed the current state of passenger traffic, noting that numbers remain at approximately half of what they were prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. He expressed optimism about future developments, mentioning that he is “anticipating” the resumption of Qatar Airways flights to Doha.
