Beijing’s parks received over 12.21 million visitors during the National Day holiday

On October 7th, a reporter from China News Service reached out to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Forestry and Parks to understand the impact of the recent National Day holiday on the city’s parks. This year, a remarkable total of 12.21 million visitors flocked to parks across Beijing, reflecting a 7.86% increase from the previous year. Among the most frequented locations were the Temple of Heaven Park, the Summer Palace, and the Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park, which drew in 950,900, 940,700, and 628,400 visitors, respectively.

Beijing’s parks made a significant effort to highlight their unique characteristics through a series of themed flower displays and picturesque landscapes. These efforts created a “one park, one feature; hundreds of parks, a thousand views” experience for visitors, enhanced by festive decorations including Chinese knots and red lanterns. Noteworthy highlights included the “Tuan Tuan Ru Yi” themed flower bed at Temple of Heaven Park, the “Celebrating a Prosperous Era” display at Longtan Park, the “Garden City: You, Me, and Him” flower bed at Yuyuantan Park, and the “Blue and Green Fusion” exhibit at Baifuqian Park in Changping District.

Additionally, Ritang Park hosted a captivating “Blooming Prosperity” chrysanthemum exhibition, featuring impressive landscapes that included a recreation of the “Qianli Jiangshan Tu” (Thousand-Mile Landscape Map) and thematic areas that spotlighted China’s historical dynasties: Qin, Han, Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing. Meanwhile, the Beijing International Flower Port in Shunyi District organized an engaging autumn flower viewing festival, showcasing expansive fields of uniquely designed flowers. In Xicheng District, Xuanwu Art Park incorporated red lanterns, contributing to the festive vibe.

With a focus on creativity and engagement, over a hundred key parks in Beijing organized a variety of targeted activities that transformed festive themes into signature attractions. During the National Day celebrations, these parks together hosted a staggering total of 220 cultural events. Notably, Fengtai District’s Garden Expo Park featured the “京彩灯会” (Beijing Color Lantern Festival), while Yanqing District’s World Park held the “National Day Trendy Carnival,” together attracting large crowds and landing among the city’s top ten parks.

This year, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Forestry and Parks identified 39 red education bases and tourism sites across 13 districts, creating nine unique touring routes. Each park during the National Day holiday aimed to provide high-quality services, ensuring a “civilized, friendly, comfortable, and quality” atmosphere. This involved maintaining service facilities and effectively managing large crowds to achieve a beautiful environment, orderly operations, high service quality, and visitor satisfaction.

Moreover, this initiative empowered parks to enhance their service capabilities through guide training, improved safety management, and expanded science education initiatives, all aimed at increasing public scientific literacy and enhancing the parks’ brand impact. By refining public facility signage, adding plant identifiers, and offering services such as coffee and gardening supplies, parks have significantly elevated the overall visitor experience. Throughout the holiday, the operations in all parks remained smooth, safe, and orderly.
