Blood supply and demand in Qinghai Province have been in a -tight balance- state in the past two years
During a recent event in Xining, Qinghai Province, Zhu Zenghong, the Deputy Director of the Qinghai Health Commission and Director of the Provincial Disease Control Bureau, highlighted a concerning trend: “Over the past two years, the amount of voluntary blood donations in our province has decreased by 7.25% and 15.15% compared to the same period in 2021. The supply and demand for blood in the province remains in a ‘tight balance.'”
On October 18, the launch ceremony for the “Passionate Blood Donation in Qinghai: Witnessing the Blue of Life” campaign was held in Xining, alongside the “Shining Red” national tour celebrating the remarkable stories of voluntary blood donors. This initiative aims to promote the spirit of selfless giving and raise awareness of the importance of voluntary blood donation, serving as a bridge of life for those in need.
Zhu emphasized that students and faculty at colleges and universities have always been the backbone of Qinghai’s blood donation efforts. “We hope to integrate the culture of voluntary blood donation deeply with campus culture, creating a major cultural framework that reflects our shared roots and ancestry,” he said, suggesting that this could enhance the warmth and community spirit of the city.
Ding Wenyi, a standing council member of the China Blood Transfusion Association and head of the Blood Donation Mobilization Committee, announced the commencement of the first stop of the “Shining Red” tour in Xining. “This event aims to further promote positive social energy and celebrate the noble dedication of blood donation volunteers,” Ding remarked. He believes this initiative will encourage blood stations nationwide to share inspiring stories and amplify the voices of charity, thereby supporting the ongoing development of voluntary blood donation efforts in China.
“Voluntary blood donation is a noble act, and the significance of donating blood to save lives is immense. Let’s work together to make meaningful actions more engaging and to turn noble deeds into fashionable initiatives,” Ding added.
