-China’s New Energy Green Development- Series·Wind Rider- book released in Beijing
On October 16, during the 2024 Beijing International Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition (CWP2024), Goldwind Technology collaborated with Communication University of China to launch the book “Wind Riders: A Series on China’s Green Energy Development.” The event gathered over twenty industry experts and representatives to reflect on the stories of China’s wind energy sector and explore the spirit that has driven these pioneers for nearly half a century.
Wang Hang, the chief editor from the School of Broadcasting and Hosting Arts at Communication University of China, noted the urgency of the “14th Five-Year Plan” period as a critical timeline for reaching peak carbon emissions. He emphasized that accelerating the establishment of a new power system based on clean energy is essential for promoting a green and low-carbon economy. “Our goal with ‘Wind Riders’ is to gather wisdom from the wind energy sector, celebrate the achievements of those in the industry, inspire a sense of professional duty and historical responsibility, and bolster confidence in achieving carbon peak goals,” Wang stated. The project took 11 months to complete, with in-depth interviews conducted across various regions, including Beijing, Hebei, Shaanxi, Gansu, Xinjiang, and Shanghai, leading to the inclusion of 19 compelling stories from notable figures within the wind energy field.
The book is divided into eight chapters, each featuring stories of 1 to 4 individuals that vividly illustrate the evolution of China’s wind energy sector. It captures the journey of introducing wind energy technology, the support of national policies, comprehensive wind resource assessments, the localization of wind turbine manufacturing, and the global expansion of China’s wind energy initiatives.
Goldwind’s Vice President, Gao Jinshan, shared, “While ‘Wind Riders’ highlights the achievements of significant figures, it also illuminates the heartfelt experiences of lesser-known individuals. Some have traveled thousands of kilometers across the Hexi Corridor in Gansu, while others have devoted countless nights in laboratories tackling unknown challenges in wind energy technology. Their stories reflect the ideals, perseverance, and legacy of China’s wind energy professionals, offering a vision of a better future for the coming decades. Although the book profiles only 19 individuals, it pays tribute to all those in the industry who remain dedicated and are passing the baton to the next generation of wind energy advocates.”
Notably, “Wind Riders” will also offer an audiobook version, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the lively narratives of these wind energy professionals. The combination of dynamic music and narration will help listeners experience the twists and triumphs of China’s wind energy journey and the genuine emotions behind it.
During the launch, an award ceremony also took place. Qi Hesheng, Vice Chairman of the China Renewable Energy Society, along with Qin Haiyan, Vice Chairman of the World Wind Energy Association, presented the “Chinese Wind Power Industry Communication Contribution Award” to the book’s production and publication team. They also gifted the attending interviewees with signed copies of “Wind Riders,” authored by notable figures such as Du Xiangwan, Honorary Chair of the National Expert Committee on Climate Change, and He Dexin, former President of the World Wind Energy Association.
As 2024 approaches, China is poised to surpass an installed wind energy capacity of 500 million kilowatts, significantly contributing to the nation’s energy and economic development. However, with the ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, there remains much work to do, and many more “Wind Riders” are needed to embark on this journey toward a sustainable, zero-carbon future.
