Doctors reveal Israeli military attack on Gaza’s largest Jabaliya refugee camp, killing 33 and injuring 85
On February 22, residents in the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza walked past the remnants of destroyed homes following an Israeli attack. According to medical personnel, the assault on Jabalia occurred on the 18th, resulting in at least 33 fatalities and 85 injuries. Locals reported that Israeli tanks demolished roads and houses during the offensive.
The Palestinian government media office, under the Hamas administration, indicated that the death toll from this latest attack could rise, as some individuals are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble. WAFA, the Palestinian official news agency, noted that among the deceased are children. Israel has not commented on the incident as of yet.
Prior to this recent assault, the Gaza Health Ministry reported that Israeli strikes across the region on the same day had already led to the deaths of at least 39 Palestinians, including 20 in Jabalia. Jabalia is home to one of the largest and oldest refugee camps in Gaza, which comprises eight such camps overall.
Local residents revealed that Israeli tanks made their way through suburban and residential areas before reaching the heart of the Jabalia refugee camp. They claimed that the Israeli military conducts daily air and ground attacks, destroying numerous homes and planting explosives within buildings before detonation from a distance.
The Israeli military stated that troops operating in Jabalia for the past two weeks killed several armed militants in street clashes yesterday, alongside airstrikes aimed at destroying military infrastructure.
Earlier on the 17th, Israel announced the killing of Yahya Sinwar, a top Hamas leader and considered Israel’s primary foe. Israel accuses Sinwar of orchestrating the October 7 attack last year, which resulted in the deadliest assault on Israel to date.
The Israeli military claims its operations in Jabalia aim to prevent Hamas fighters from regrouping and launching further attacks.
