Hunan Lingling develops camellia oleifera industry to drive farmers to increase income and become rich
Yongzhou, Hunan – In recent years, the Lingling District of Yongzhou City has been making significant strides in the cultivation of camellia oil, evident in their efforts to enhance management practices, strengthen unique branding, and extend the industrial chain. The result? An impressive transformation of the landscape, as rows of camellia trees thrive on the hills, bringing prosperity to local residents.
At the Qianmu camellia oil base in Yangjiaoshan Village, the rolling hills showcase a verdant sea of greenery. The thriving camellia trees curve gracefully against the wind, bearing plentiful fruits indicative of a fruitful harvest.
Located in a favorable climate zone, Yangjiaoshan Village benefits from ample sunshine and fertile soil, making it an ideal location for camellia cultivation. Since 2020, the village has taken advantage of its natural conditions by implementing an agricultural model that combines “bases + cooperatives + farmers.” This initiative has led to the establishment of a thousand-acre camellia oil base project aimed at expanding cultivation and positioning the camellia industry as a pillar for increasing farmers’ incomes.
According to Xie Bo, the village’s party secretary, the high-yield camellia oil industry park has created job opportunities for over 170 families, providing new avenues for income, enhancing ecological development, and serving as a fresh driving force for rural revitalization.
Camellia cultivation has deep roots in the Lingling District. Recently, local authorities have prioritized camellia oil production as part of their rural revitalization and beautiful village projects, leveraging ecological advantages to propel high-quality development within the industry while preserving its traditional identity.
Efforts have intensified around training and technical guidance, while initiatives to expand planting areas continue through diverse tactics, including public education, policy support, and encouraging large producers. The district is committed to fostering a robust camellia industry by promoting an “enterprise + base + farmer” model, along with cooperative formations to empower farmers and develop an integrated camellia oil supply chain, all aimed at boosting production and incomes for the community.
Currently, the area dedicated to camellia cultivation in Lingling District covers 304,200 acres, generating an annual output value exceeding 300 million yuan, significantly contributing to the region’s economic growth.
