-Jilin-1- high-scoring 05B star sets out in Changchun

On October 19th, Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. held a launch ceremony in Changchun for its “Jilin-1” Gaofen-05B satellite. This cutting-edge satellite boasts a resolution of better than 0.5 meters.

Could you tell us about the significance of the “Jilin-1” Gaofen-05B satellite in terms of its capabilities?

The “Jilin-1” satellite series represents a core project for Changguang Satellite, which is recognized as China’s first commercial remote sensing satellite company. Currently, the satellite constellation consists of 115 operational satellites, making it the largest sub-meter level commercial remote sensing satellite constellation in the world and a vital source of space-based remote sensing information globally.

What specific features does the Gaofen-05B satellite offer?

The Gaofen-05B satellite weighs no more than 185 kilograms and is designed to capture high-resolution remote sensing images, achieving a resolution better than 0.5 meters and a swath width exceeding 13.5 kilometers. It excels in high resolution, fast data transmission, and stability.

Can you elaborate on the development and purpose of this satellite?

Changguang Satellite developed the Gaofen-05B as a high-resolution optical remote sensing satellite. It serves not only as a technology verification satellite for potential mass production but also aims to validate key technologies such as high-resolution imaging capabilities of new payloads, high-speed laser data transmission, and electric propulsion systems for orbital maintenance.

How do you envision the future applications of this satellite?

Looking ahead, we plan to develop a new satellite constellation focused on this resolution level, which will enhance our ability to provide rich remote sensing data and product services across various domains, including national security, geographic mapping, agricultural production, and smart city development.
