New York Yankees vs. California Dodgers, World Series forces two state governors to bet_1
As the highly anticipated World Series unfolds, California Governor Gavin Newsom and New York Governor Kathy Hochul are joining the excitement in their own unique way.
On the morning of the 25th, against the beautiful backdrop of the Hudson River, Governor Hochul took to X (formerly Twitter) to challenge Governor Newsom to a friendly wager. She proposed that if the New York Yankees triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series, California must decorate Newsom’s office with Yankees memorabilia for a day.
Not long after, Newsom responded with a video, saying, “Let’s do this, Governor Hochul!” He acknowledged the Yankees’ legendary history but emphasized, “California knows how to win championships… When the Dodgers lift that trophy, I want to see Dodgers blue proudly displayed in your office, not just tucked away in a corner.”
For Newsom, a San Francisco native and former mayor of the city, this wager was not without its complications, given that the Dodgers’ main rivals, the Giants, are also based in San Francisco. He admitted, “As a proud San Franciscan, you don’t often hear me say this, but this year: Go Dodgers!”
