Ningxia Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop integrates culture and tourism to support rural revitalization training class launched at Ningxia University
On October 27, the 2024 Training Program for Inheritors of China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage kicked off at Ningxia University. This 30-day initiative, focused on integrating cultural heritage workshops with tourism to support rural revitalization, aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of its participants.
The program has brought together experts from prestigious institutions such as Minzu University of China, China Academy of Art, Ningxia Academy of Social Sciences, Northern Minzu University, and Ningxia University itself. A total of 40 inheritors of intangible cultural heritage and practitioners from various workshops across Ningxia will undergo training through specialized lectures, hands-on teaching, and collaborative creative work. During the training, participants will delve into topics including the study of intangible cultural heritage, traditional crafts and arts, and the latest theories on integrating heritage with tourism to promote rural revitalization. This comprehensive approach seeks to strengthen foundational knowledge, broaden perspectives, and enhance professional skills, thereby advancing the preservation and transmission of intangible cultural heritage.
According to the project leader, the training program aspires to foster consensus among government entities, scholars, inheritors, and the general public. The goal is to jointly explore new models for integrating intangible heritage with modern life, technology, and the market, ultimately generating a robust collective effort for heritage protection and transmission. This initiative aims to ensure that intangible cultural heritage evolves through its interaction with both history and contemporary society, thereby enriching the cohesiveness and influence of Chinese culture.
In recent years, Ningxia University has leveraged its strengths in ethnology to achieve significant outcomes in education and research on cultural heritage protection and the awareness of the Chinese national community. The university has established influential educational and research institutions, including the Autonomous Region Cultural Heritage Protection and Tourism Industry Collaborative Innovation Center, the Autonomous Region Revolutionary Cultural Relics Coordinated Innovation Research Center, and the Ningxia University Station for the State Administration of Cultural Heritage’s Key Laboratory for Space Information Technology and Cultural Heritage Protection in collaboration with Tsinghua University.
This training program is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, guided by the Ningxia Department of Culture and Tourism, and hosted by Ningxia University, specifically organized by the School of Ethnic Studies and History.
