Not Afraid of DeRozan Joining to Compress Space King Murray- Role Will Not Change

This summer, the Sacramento Kings acquired star guard DeMar DeRozan through a three-team trade. However, third-year player Keegan Murray feels that the addition of DeRozan won’t alter his role on the team.

Last season, Murray averaged 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists with a shooting percentage of 45%. His outside shooting has become a crucial part of the Kings’ offensive spacing, and he believes that everyone on the team can contribute offensively. “So I don’t think my role is going to change,” he said after a training camp session. “I haven’t noticed any significant changes; I’m in a smooth adjustment period, and no one has asked me to make any special changes. So I’m going to continue to be aggressive.”

While the overall offensive system of the Kings is unlikely to see major changes, DeRozan’s presence offers the team a new option, especially in half-court situations where they need someone to deliver.

“We have similar movement patterns, running around and passing the ball. But when you need a bucket, I think he’s the guy who can successfully execute that play, and everyone can thrive in that scenario,” Murray explained.

DeRozan, who played for the Chicago Bulls last season, is now 35 years old and is a six-time All-Star. He averaged 24 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists last season. He is expected to make his debut with the Kings in their preseason game against the Golden State Warriors this Thursday.
