-Simplify Traditional Chinese Medicine- Cultural Salon was held in Berlin
On the evening of September 27, the China Cultural Center in Berlin hosted an engaging cultural salon titled “Simplifying the Complexity of Traditional Chinese Medicine.” The event featured renowned TCM practitioner Mr. Zeng Jinlin, who has made Germany his home. Over 130 local enthusiasts of traditional Chinese medicine attended, eager to learn more.
In his opening remarks, Center Director Sun Qinhang highlighted the significance of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as a cornerstone of China’s rich cultural legacy. He spoke about how TCM encompasses profound philosophical insights, centuries of medical practice, and holistic health principles. Director Sun pointed out that acupuncture was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010, while foundational texts like “Huangdi Neijing” and “Bencao Gangmu” are part of the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. He expressed his hope that this salon would enhance understanding of TCM among Germans and foster cultural exchange and collaboration between China and Germany.
Mr. Zeng, who comes from a medical family and graduated from Shaanxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, previously practiced at a hospital in Xi’an. After moving to Germany in 1997, he continued his studies at Hanover Medical School and obtained a license in natural healing. He later established his own TCM clinic, equipped with extensive theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
During his presentation, Mr. Zeng unpacked key TCM concepts such as Yin-Yang, the Five Elements, and organ functions. He explained how TCM diagnoses illnesses through various techniques, including observation, listening, inquiry, and pulse analysis. Attendees learned about treatment methods that encompass herbal medicine, acupuncture, cupping, and moxibustion.
Furthermore, Mr. Zeng discussed the principles of seasonal wellness in TCM, urging participants to focus on health maintenance and disease prevention. He shared insights into dietary therapy, Tai Chi, and Qigong, while emphasizing the importance of proper sleep. In the Q&A session, Mr. Zeng actively engaged with the audience, thoughtfully addressing their questions and offering practical wellness tips for daily living.
Notably, several medical professionals were in attendance, including a German physician who runs a private practice. She shared her personal experience with acupuncture, praising its remarkable effectiveness, and expressed a keen interest in deepening her understanding of TCM and exploring Chinese culture further.
