Teachers and students from Thai universities prepare Chinese food to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival
On September 17, the Confucius Institute at Mahasarakham University in Thailand hosted a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration titled “A Taste of the Confucius Institute.” This event brought together students and faculty from China and Thailand to pay tribute to this cherished holiday.
“We invite friends from all corners to join us in enjoying delicious food and relishing the beauty of the full moon through our celebration, ‘A Taste of the Confucius Institute,'” said Lin Haoye, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at Mahasarakham University.
The use of local ingredients, such as papayas harvested from the university’s campus and wild fish sourced from the Confucius Institute’s Wuye Lake, provided a perfect base for the culinary delights. Exchange students from Guangxi University of Nationalities, law students from Mahasarakham University, and Chinese students collaborated as “chefs” to create an array of classic Chinese dishes. The menu included dumplings, spicy chicken feet, boiled beef, chilled papaya salad, Cantonese beef brisket soup, and stir-fried pork, showcasing a vibrant mix of Sichuan and Cantonese cuisines. Each dish not only delighted the taste buds but also celebrated the spirit of international friendship and collaboration.
The Confucius Institute celebrated this traditional Chinese festival in a distinctive fashion, with every dish reflecting the attendees’ homesickness and their appreciation for the connections forged across different cultures.
