On October 24, a spokesperson from the China News Agency reported that the 2024 Second Water’s Edge Ironman Open will take place on October 27 at the Beiti Luanhe Left Bank Sports Park in Qian’an City, Hebei Province. This exciting event is set to attract more than 300 participants from over 20 provinces across the country.
The competition will feature four sports: paddleboarding, kayaking, cycling, and running. Participants will compete in three categories: the quadathlon, duathlon, and bike-run duo. To ensure fairness and professionalism, athletes will be further divided into various groups based on gender, age, and other factors. The quadathlon category will present a true test of endurance and determination, as competitors must complete a grueling sequence of 1 kilometer of paddleboarding, 6 kilometers of kayaking, 28 kilometers of cycling, and finish with a 5-kilometer run—covering a total distance of 40 kilometers. The duathlon and bike-run duo categories also require participants to finish all the events within their respective groups.
According to Zhou Jiang, a level-two chief staff member with the Qian’an Cultural, Broadcasting and Tourism Bureau, the city has been working hard to establish itself as a sports powerhouse, a city of events, and a dream city in recent years. Focusing on themes around the Great Wall and Luanhe River, Qian’an has developed multiple professional venues and hosts distinctive brand events.
The event is guided by the China Triathlon Association, organized by the Tangshan Sports Bureau and the Qian’an Municipal Government, and implemented by the Qian’an Cultural, Broadcasting and Tourism Bureau and Beiti Sports Education Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd.
