The second Liaoning Provincial Vocational Skills Competition opened in Dalian, with nearly 5,000 players competing
On October 23, the second provincial vocational skills competition in Liaoning kicked off in Dalian, bringing together nearly 5,000 contestants from 15 delegations representing various cities and the Shenyang-Fushun demonstration area.
The event, themed “Innovating the Future with Skills,” is hosted by the Liaoning Provincial Government and organized by the provincial departments of Human Resources and Social Security, the Federation of Trade Unions, and the Dalian Municipal Government. This competition is noted for being the highest standard, featuring the most projects, the largest scale, and the most extensive influence of any comprehensive vocational skills event in the province.
The opening ceremony was held at the Dalian International Conference Center, where Li Lecheng, Vice Secretary of the Liaoning Provincial Committee and Governor, officially declared the competition open.
In his speech, Governor Li emphasized the crucial role that skilled talents play in supporting China’s manufacturing and innovation. He noted that in recent years, Liaoning has prioritized the development of its skilled workforce as a fundamental strategy for revitalizing its economy. The province has focused on improving policies and systems related to the training, employment, evaluation, and incentivization of skilled workers. Efforts include extensive vocational training and a range of skills competitions, all aimed at fostering a social environment that values knowledge, talent, and creativity.
The province has seen a significant emergence of skilled craftsmen, with over 5.67 million skilled workers recorded, including 1.46 million high-skilled professionals. More than 1,800 have received provincial or higher-level recognition, 24 have been awarded the National Skills Award, and 156 have been recognized as national technical experts.
According to the competition organizing committee, this year’s event features 108 contest categories, including 94 events in preparation for the national vocational skills competition and 14 that highlight Liaoning’s specialties. Participants come from various sectors, including corporate employees, students from vocational schools, and social laborers, representing key occupations from Liaoning’s major industrial bases and clusters.
The competition is currently heating up, with participants showcasing their expertise and innovative capabilities. From a national champion tea art performance to intricate skills like egg drilling and balloon slicing, master craftsmen, inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, and frontline workers are all displaying their remarkable talents.
The competition will run until October 25, during which various activities such as showcases of achievements in workforce development, performances of exceptional skills, agreements between schools and businesses, sharing of experiences in skill development, high-skill recruitment, and skill showcases from supported regions will also take place.
