Flushing massage parlor murders wife, 2 children trapped, horns raise funds_1
On October 14, the Christian Gospel Ministry held a press conference in Flushing to launch a public fundraising campaign for the family of the victim in a tragic domestic violence case that occurred last month. The incident, which took place on September 9, involved a physical altercation between a Chinese couple, leading to the husband, Ma Qihai, fatally stabbing his wife, Tang Guimei. Ma now faces multiple charges and could be sentenced to life in prison. Their two young children, aged four and six, are currently being cared for by their grandmother in China, but financial struggles have made it increasingly difficult for the family.
At the press conference, Elen Yang, a senior advisor to State Assemblymember Jin Duxi, along with Luo Yongli, vice president of the Guizhou Association, called for community support to raise funds for the victim’s family. Yang shared her concern for the grandmother, who is overwhelmed and considering giving up the care of her grandchildren due to her dire economic situation. After receiving a plea for assistance from the victim’s family, Yang acted quickly to help with the arrangements for the deceased’s body, planning to have it cremated and sent back to China for burial.
Elen Yang emphasized the importance of mental health awareness, especially in moments of emotional turmoil, urging individuals to seek professional help promptly. She highlighted the mental health resources provided by the Gospel Ministry and mentioned that the Asian American Medical Association is also enhancing mental health services in the community with support from state funding.
Luo Yongli added that the Guizhou Association has been in contact with the victim’s family and local authorities in China to address the children’s educational needs and to coordinate economic assistance from relevant agencies in Guizhou Province. Additionally, they will be sending a wreath on the day of the funeral to express their condolences and support for the grieving family. Luo expressed gratitude for the community’s generous donations, stating that this help is a significant lifeline for a family facing such hardship.
Pastor Chen Zhi, the Executive Director of the Gospel Ministry, noted that many new immigrants encounter challenges such as language barriers, difficulties finding jobs, and even lack of identification documents, leading to a challenging lifestyle. Without proper guidance and resources, they can easily experience emotional breakdowns, which may result in negative behaviors. The ministry is committed to providing resources to address issues like domestic violence and underscores that any criminal offense can severely impact one’s status and future in the U.S.
Currently, Tang Guimei and Ma Qihai’s two children are still in Guizhou, China, needing urgent financial support. Donations are being requested to aid in their education and daily living costs.
